Every fall, during the first week of school, students in the sixth, seventh and eighth-grade embark on a three-day, outdoor-education adventure. This year the sixth graders will attend the Pali Institute, near Lake Arrowhead. There, they will be hiking, taking part in orienteering activities, practicing archery and experiencing team- building exercises.
The seventh grade class will travel by boat to Catalina Island to attend the Catalina Island Marine Institute at Cherry Cove. Their focus will be primarily science, and almost everything is hands on. The students will participate in sea labs and attend aquariums as well as snorkel, and experience the diverse flora and fauna in and around Catalina Island.
The eighth graders will head to El Capitan State Beach, located a few miles north of Santa Barbara. Students will camp in tents, study fresh-water ecology and will have the opportunity to kayak and experience a high-ropes course.
In addition to the wonderful learning experiences provided, our students will participate in activities that will help them bond with new classmates and re-connect with those they have not seen during the summer. Two teachers attend with each class, making sure that our students stay comfortable and safe during their three-day adventure.
